Verizon or T for iPhone 5

The Verizon iPhone 5 arrival will be the first time in which Verizon customers have the chance to nab a novel iPhone generation on day one. But it’s also the first time existing iPhone customers on AT&T will have the choice of jumping to Verizon without having to replace their existing iPhone 4 with another iPhone 4; the move to the Verizon iPhone 5 this summer would be the same hardware transition as sticking with the gigantic T for their iPhone 5. For existing iPhone users, there are distinguished speculates to go either way. Here are some factors to consider.

Network: The elephant in the room is the network, of course. Verizon and AT&T fans will argue all day about which carrier’s network is the best overall, however most of those arguments are based solely on their own personal local experiences with their phone compared to the out of context feedback they hear from customers of different carriers. Bottom line for your iPhone 5 choice: which carrier has the best signal and least dead spots at your home, your place of work, and your other popular places? Also, travelers must consider nationwide and international network implications.

4G: The speedy next generation of cellular network is approaching. Verizon’s 4G network hardly exists. AT&T’s doesn’t. If the iPhone 5 offers 4G, and that’s  astronomical if, then the speed at which the two carriers are rolling out 4G might be a factor. Of course if you live in a slight town, don’t expect 4G to cover you during the iPhone 5 era anyway.

Contracts: If you bought your AT&T iPhone less than two years ago, you’re on the hook for an early termination fee if you jump to a Verizon iPhone 5. Are you willing to pay a few hundred bucks just to go Verizon?

Pricing: Verizon and AT&T are charging iPhone 4 users nearly the same each month for plans and features, with dissimilarities along the way. This might change in the iPhone 5 era, as the two carriers find themselves in real rivalry for iPhone users’ affections. Or they might just sit back and collusively gouge users, as they’ve accomplished for as long as they’ve existed.

Data: For some users the prospect of changing carriers for the iPhone 5 and taking your longtime unlimited data plan with you will be a factor, depending on which way the carriers go on this.

Photoshop Express 2 for iPhone

The rivalry between photography apps on iOS is fierce. There are a dozens of puny pieces of software ready-to chop and mess with your images in variey of ways. But Adobe is still a large fish, and when they make updates to their Photoshop branded application, it’s worth taking look.

The application itself is still free and allows you perform things like apply filters, rotate, crop, set exposures and add difference to your images. But, there are lots of novel features that necessitates the download of a  $3.99 camera pack add-on. We bought one to see how it perfoms.

One of the most great upgrades is the plussage of noise reduction, which provides the collection of filters. You add degrees of the follow among 1 and 100, reducing the image resolution as you increase. You’ll notice that it takes a few seconds to apply once you’ve completed optimizing.

The effect performs very well, despite the loss in resolution. However once you start getting past 35, it begings to look dishy unnatural, however that’s to be expected. See the recited gallery for examples.

The other added properties are a camera timer, which works a lot like a normal camera timer and a handy review mode which shows you your photo rapidly, enabling you to have fun with an adjustable rate.

While the noise reduction characteristic is nice, particularly for people who like to share photos direct from the camera (and aren’t already using another filter system like Hipstamatic or Instagram), four dollars will go a long way in the application store. Finally, this application is a bit pricy for what it proposes.

It is also convenient for the iPad, however with the iPad’s cameras being what they are, the filters likely won’t achieve all that much good.

Google has updated its iPhone App

Google has annunciated a necessary update to its iPhone app, giving it a new design, new features and even a new name.

Google Search for iPhone, formerly Google Mobile, features a brand-new interface for searching the web and accessing applications. The mobile search interface is now more like the ordinary Google.com interface. The mobile search application also includes fast access to Voice Search and to Google Googles, which allows users manage searches via photo.

The most important update to the Google Search application is a new search toolbar that is accessible by swiping from left to right. Google.com users will directly recognize this toolbar. It’s almost similar to the left-hand column that appears on all Google Search corollary pages. Users can now access news, image, shopping, video, blog, discussion, social, and place searches from the new search toolbar — thus greatly improving the Google’s iPhone application.

The novel application contains another feature: the ability to continue where you left off. If you acquire dragged into a series of phone calls while in the middle of a search, you can simply return to the page you were visiting by tapping the lower half of the page. The application also contains the familiar hotlist of Google’s mobile web applications, from Gmail to Google Earth.

Briefly, the application is a amazing advancement from the last version. It is quicker, more intuitive and contains a deeper stable of mobile search features. Our only grievance: given that we’re in the fourth gen of iPhone, Google absolutely should have announced this application long long time ago.
